Is Music the Key to Success?

Roger McNamee discusses how important music and learning to play a musical instrument are to being successful in life with Cory Johnson and Alix Steel on Bloomberg Television’s “Street Smart.”

According to Roger, "The truth about music is that it requires tremendous discipline from a young age and so it's a leading indicator of ability to focus."

Roger has previously described how “music and technology have converged" and how he became expert on Facebook by using it to promote his band, Moonalice, and now is focusing on video by live-streaming its concerts. He says musicians and top professionals share “the almost desperate need to dive deep.” This capacity to obsess seems to unite top performers in music and other fields.

Moonalice is a band of seasoned musicians who feel that live music should be a communal experience where the listener and musicians feed and derive inspiration from each other. Their songs try to speak to everyone, mixing a variety of genres with extended musical improvisations that evoke a sense of adventure and exploration. Moonalice invented Twittercast concerts, which are free broadcasts to fans over social networks. The band's single single, "It's 4:20 Somewhere" has been downloaded more than 3 million times. Every show is broadcast live via satellite in HTML 5, so that they can be enjoyed on iPhone, iPad or Android without an app.

Yes, I also believe that learning to play a musical instrument is a good way to be dicipline and as you grow older you will be more focus. You became advance and get a better chance of success. But not everyone who's into music or knows how to play the instrument can be successful.
