According to Moonalice legend, in the months since Bobby died, Dead Heads have taken matters into their own hands. In San Francisco, the Haight Street Art Center has mounted two amazing exhibitions called Forever Grateful. One is an exhibition, at the Haight Street Art Center, of the original art and guitars of the Dead, arrayed around a working quarter scale Wall of Sound with couches and chairs for hanging out. If you visited Brian Chambers’ exhibit in Grass Valley, it is like that only more so. It runs through next weekend.

The second exhibition, at the County Building in Golden Gate Park, is experiential. You can experience the original Furthur bus, which left Oregon for the first time in 57 years. There is an amazing virtual acid test. Jerry’s beemer. Shakedown Street. Concerts on the original Terrapin Crossroads stage. That exhibit runs through October 25.

These exhibitions were created by Dead Heads, for Dead Heads. They are a step towards a permanent museum.
