According to Moonalice legend, part of Big Sur’s charm is the scarcity of humans. This has allowed wildlife to flourish even in a time of climate change and wildfires. Tonight’s poster by Gary Houston depicts Wings Moonalice, matriarch of a flock of Monarchs that makes a visit each year to a place near Big Sur and Little Sur, an area called No Sur, where no men are allowed to visit without bringing at least a quarter pound of fine herb and pumpkin. Butterflies enjoy pumpkins, but they LOVE weed. Today was a good day for democracy, but if democracy is to survive the current moment, we’re going to have to stick together, love and respect one another, smoke a lot of weed, and get involved.
