According to Moonalice legend, astronomers are deeply confused. Most science books say there is only one moon that orbits the earth. That’s the one the astronauts supposedly visited in 1969, when they staged a moon landing for television in a soundstage in Burbank. And yet, there is considerable evidence of other moons, even in science books. There is the harvest moon, the waxing gibbous moon, the blue moon … and tonight, the super moon. Those are just the ones we know about. To satisfy our curiosity, we consulted the Moonalice legend, where we found tonight’s poster by Lauren Yurkovich. It depicts Sunshine Moonalice, the celestial senior vice president in charge of moons. Sunshine’s territory includes the entire solar system, so it was she who provided the recently discovered moon that may return Pluto to planetary status. And she is in charge of tonight’s lunar entertainment. She recommends that you enjoy it. So do we …
