#MZT65 - 1st Rehearsal Show from Slim's in SF. Links to new songs!!

We decided to start the year with three days and nights of technical rehearsals at Slim's in San Francisco. Tech rehearsals are simulated show days: from load in and set up through sound check, the show, repack, and load out. They are the music equivalent of spring training. The crew used the time to improve its game and figure out what equipment needs fixing. The band learned a bunch of new songs and refreshed some old ones. The shows were played to an audience of our crew and a few friends who happened to wander by.

According to Moonalice legend, New Year's Eve 2009 offered a full spectrum of Blue Moonalice. For the first time in 19 years, a blue moon fell on New Year's Eve. On stage, a colorful Blue Moon umbrella represented the full moon that was not visible through the clouds outside. Front and center, the beautiful Blue Moonalice entertained the audience. And rumor has it that a new strain called Blue Moonalice scented the air outside the venue.

We played some amazing festivals in 2009 - Bonnaroo, Gathering of the Vibes, Wakarusa, Summer Camp - but the one that topped them all for audience was Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. We are no good at estimating crowds, but a sea of people were spread out in front of us.

T Bone Burnett nominated for Producer of the Year for Moonalice, Costello albums!

You may recall that our debut album was produced by T Bone Burnett. You may also recall that T Bone produced the Alison Kraus/Robert Plant album "Raising Sand" that won the Best Album GRAMMY this year. If you were really paying attention, you might have picked up on the fact that our album was recorded in the same studio as Raising Sand.
